Lakeshore Collection: 48 classical compositions

湖涯集 (Huyaji, the Lakeshore Collection), a classical collection of folk (jianghu) xiangqi endgame compositions, generally placed in the Qing dynasty; the compiler's name and the date are not recorded in the source, and nearly half of its diagrams also appear in the printed Qing manuals of 1800 to 1879, several under other names. dpxq.com carries 61 of its compositions, and 48 are included here, each rooted at its own diagram with the book's line as the mainline; the other 13 are held back until their recorded lines have been checked against the book (one of them is a second copy of a composition already included). Chapters follow dpxq's listing order, which sorts the titles by their first character and is not the book's own order. Titles are English renderings of the original names, which are kept alongside. Records come from dpxq.com; only the book's diagrams and moves are reproduced here, and each composition credits its source. dpxq's records of this book carry no result lines, so each chapter gives the diagram and the line without stating an outcome; in a few, the side that moves first is the side that loses. Every line replays legally through the Mistboard rules kernel, which is a check on the record and not on the book: this text has a single source, and a solution recorded short would still replay cleanly. The compositions are long out of copyright.
