Plantain and Bamboo Studio Manual: 75 classical compositions

蕉竹斋象棋谱 (Jiaozhuzhai Xiangqi Pu), a classical collection of folk (jianghu) endgame compositions generally placed in the Qing dynasty; the compiler's name and the date are not recorded in the source. dpxq.com carries 91 of its compositions, and 75 are included here, each rooted at its own diagram with the book's line as the mainline; the other 16 are held back until their recorded lines have been checked against the book. Chapters follow dpxq's listing order, which sorts the titles by their first character and is not the book's own order. Titles are English renderings of the original four-character names, which are kept alongside. Records come from dpxq.com; only the book's diagrams, moves and its own verdict lines are reproduced here, and each composition credits its source. Every line replays legally through the Mistboard rules kernel, which is a check on the record and not on the book: this text has a single source, and a solution recorded short would still replay cleanly. The compositions are well over a century old and long out of copyright.
