How Misty wins at Jungle
Fifty-two games Misty played against itself at full playing strength, grouped by what actually decided them. Sixteen races where one side reached the den while behind on material. Twelve ordinary conversions, which is what most den entries look like. Thirteen draws, nearly all of them dead level. Fourteen games against a copy of itself searching a twenty-fifth as deep.\n\nThe engine understands the den completely. Reaching it scores as mate, and it calculates that finish from about twelve plies out. A race is the thing it has no feel for: the position where both sides are running and the winner is whoever arrives first. Those decide roughly one game in twenty-one. Teaching the evaluation to see them was built and measured, and it bought nothing, so these games are here to be read rather than fixed. One thing did change because of them. Fourteen of these hundred games ended on the no-capture clock with a result still in them, so that clock went from 100 plies to 200 and the share of decisive games rose from a quarter to a third. Every game here was played under the older, shorter rule.
