How she plays
She did not lose with black. In her 24 games with black here she won 15 and drew 9. Both of her losses came with red.
She opens with a soldier. In 12 of her 26 red games here her first move pushes a soldier. No other first move comes close: the horse, the elephant and the central cannon have four games each.
She played her best at the world championship. Her median accuracy over the 50 games is 95.7. Over her seven games in Shanghai it was 97.3, her highest at any event here.
"I'm not afraid of losing," she told the Yangcheng Evening News in March 2026, "only of not playing a high-quality game."
The titles
World Championship, Shanghai
The 19th World Xiangqi Championship was played in Shanghai from 21 to 27 September 2025. Tang Dan won the women's individual title, her fourth world title, and the women's team gold for China with Chen Lichun. We hold seven of her games there: five wins and two draws. The first was a win with black over Li Sih-yi of Taiwan.
National Championship, Jinan
China's national individual championship was played in Gangcheng, Jinan, from 6 to 13 December 2025, with 56 women in the field. After the group stage and three knockout rounds she met Zuo Wenjing in the final, drew the slow game, and won the rapid tie-break with black for her tenth national title.
It was the second time in a month that she beat Zuo for a title: in November she had won the women's individual open event at the 15th National Games, beating Zuo there too. Zuo, the 2022 world champion, has her own page.
